Meet two very handsome boys on this wonderful horse and carriage experience! Half brothers Duke and Charlie are two very loveable and photogenic Dark Bay Irish Cob horses who love nothing more than to host (along with their two-footed friend Susie) carriage rides in the peaceful Cheshire countryside. As soon as you meet Susie the love for her horses and her professionalism is clear. Listening to how Charlie and Duke came into Susie’s life is a truly endearing and captivating story of mutual respect trust love and friendship and we can see why these two hold such as place in her heart along with her beloved Leonberger dogs. Once you’ve been introduced to everyone it’s time to prepare the carriage and the horses for your ride out. The quiet country lanes in this corner of Cheshire are perfect for immersing yourself into the world of driving horses. It’s like stepping back in time to a place where the carriageways were filled with horses and carts long before motor vehicles literally overtook them in the terms of numbers. Duke and Charlie are experienced hands when it comes to carriage work and live very much up to the reputation of the Cob being sturdy reliable intelligent and incredibly good natured horses with a natural ability and need to learn and work. Once the harnesses are on they know its time to get to work. Charlie takes a lot of pride in what he does whilst Duke is definitely more of a joker and it’s so lovely to see their different characters shining through as you have plenty of time to get know the horses during your experience. And nothing compares to that distinctive and very calming sound of horses hooves trotting – in fact it’s totally mesmerising! The carriage that is usually used for these rides is a called a Wagonette. It’s rather like the old diligence carriages that were used for getting people and goods from A to B. Seating up to six comfortably there’s even a roof to keep you dry in case the rain falls in Cheshire on the day of your experience.
