Santa Pod Track Training

Blow your mind on a Santa Pod track day! Any petrol head worth their brake calipers will tell you just how special the Santa Pod Raceway is so imagine telling someone you know who loves cars that they are actually going to drive on a rather funky pop-up circuit at this famous venue! These track day events are not drag racing sessions where the smell of nitromethane and burning rubber fills the air but you will be fully immersed in the Santa Pod experience as you take a track day lesson in the car of your choice. And what a line up of cars it is here at this famous Northamptonshire strip. Regular track day participants include everything from the classic 306 GTI and the Renault Sports Clio in the B-class garage to the Ariel Atom and the Lotus Elise in the A-class paddock. So as you can see there is a wide range of motors for you to get your hands on.What’s more there are none of those driver aids or even dual pedals on this collection of cars it’s all about getting back to basics as you learn how to handle the corners and control the sheer need for speed. Floor it up the straight and go hard on the brakes into the corners. It’s as simple but incredibly exhilarating as that.If you’re wondering about track records to give you an idea of what’s possible on Santa Pod’s main strip the fastest drag car raced in 1984 and still heads the leader board today for not only Northamptonshire’s little old Santa Pod but the world. ‘Vanishing Point’ achieved a record 3.58 seconds at 386.26mph. Yes you did read that right not far off 400mph. But to be fair it was a rocket-propelled car. We’re pretty certain you won’t be knocking on the driver’s door of Vanishing Point’s world record during your Santa Pod training day but you will be allowed to push these finely-tuned street cars to their limits. There are no airs and graces here at the Pod it’s all about accelerating until your retinas feel properly rinsed on this bespoke track adjacent to the main drag! These Santa Pod track days run throughout the main racing season between February and November and as long as you have a valid driving licence you too can step into the crazy racing world of the Pod. Who’d have thought the quiet corner around Podington in Northamptonshire would be home to such an adrenaline-fuelled track?
